Preserving your Gems

A summary explanation of the Hadith ash-Sharif on the inherent virtues in a believer and how they are lost

Bismillahi wa salatu wa salamu ‘ala Rasulillah wa ‘ala jami’il ambiyai wal-mursalin wa ‘ala ahlihi wa sahabihi ajmain, amin.

Our beloved Prophet and noble master, Rasulullah Muhammad Mustafa [sallallahu alaihi wa sallam] said:

There are four invaluable gifts embedded in the son of Adam (alaihi ‘s-salam). These four gifts are in turn removed by other four vices, evils. As for the invaluable gems (gifts), they are; Intellect, Religion, Shame and (ability and inclination) to do good deeds. Of these: anger removes intellect, envy removes religion, desire removes shame and sense of caution and backbiting removes goods deeds.

  1. ANGER REMOVES INTELLECT

Since excessive anger is a step to insanity. When man gets angry his intellect vanishes and his wisdom suppressed. He becomes a toy in the hand of Shaytan who makes him utters statements that he is bound to regret. Know, and may Allahu ta’ala grant you safety, that anger comes in four shades and only one of these can be found in a true Muslim. Some are quick to anger and also quick to go out of it; some get angry late and go out of anger late; some get angry  quick and come out of it late; while some get angry late and quickly come out of anger. This (last type) is the anger of the believer. We attain to this fortune when we realise Allahu ta’ala’s sublimity over us and His promise to remove His anger on the Day of Accounting on those who restrain their anger when provoked by other creation of Allah. The Holy Qur’an elaborating on those who will enter into Allahu ta’ala’s rahma and compassion says:

Those who avoid the major sins (Kabair) and indecencies, and forgive when they are angry. (al-Shura: 37) Continue reading “Preserving your Gems”

The Virtues of the Sacred Month of Rajab

Bismillahi wa salatu wa salamu ‘ala Rasulillah wa ‘ala jami’il ambiyai wal-mursalin wa ‘ala ahlihi wa sahabihi ajmain, amin.

We offer our Hamd to our Karim Lord, Allahu subhanahu wa ta’ala, for the unique blessing of Iman and for all He has mercifully put in place to ensure our forgiveness and our success on the Day of Hisab. Allahu subhanahu wa ta’ala loves all possessors of Iman. With their guidance to Iman He has extended a ‘hand’ of friendship to them, and with the bond of love established, He also took it upon His majesty to fulfill all rights of friendship due. A reflection over the obligatory and nawafil ibadats as well as many little deeds that give so much rewards and exaltation would reveal how much our Lord and Creator has put in place to raise our rewards, cleanse us of sins and even turn our evils and lapses to good.

The month of Rajab is one of the sacred time selected by Allahu ta’ala to offset our deficit by granting abundance of reward. Our beloved Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa salam) and their pious  heirs and lovers (alaihimu ‘r-ridwan) would make the best of this month, exerting themselves in ibadats and good deeds. This write up is to remind Muslims of the sacredness of this noble months, of the sacred duties in it, and of the rewards attainable by those who sincerely make efforts to win Allah’s mercy in it.

The Hujjatul Islam, al-Imam Abu Hamid al-Ghazali (rahimahullah) quoted the noblest Rasulullah (alaihi ‘s-salam) as saying:

Rajab is the month of Allahu ta’ala, Sha’ban is my month, and Ramadan is the month of my Ummah. Continue reading “The Virtues of the Sacred Month of Rajab”

Suluk Essentials

An introductory letter by Hadrat Hafiz Zulfiqar Ahmad AnNaqshbandi (Damat Barakatuhu)

With His Glorious Name

Allah, Allah, Allah

Dear Respected Sister:

As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.

May Allahu I keep you in His protection. I received your letter and was very pleased. Know that whenever this faqir receives a letter, he immediately makes a supplication and sends a spiritual reply. Written replies are sometimes delayed because of an extremely busy schedule. You asked about the litanies (dhikr) of the Naqshibandi Mujaddidi tariqa, I have outlined some relevant details below. Tasawwuf and the Sacred Sunnat

Bismillahi wa salatu wa salamu ala Rasulillah wa ‘ala jami’il ambiyai wal-mursalin wa ‘ala ahlihi wa sahabihi ajmain, amin.

All the three (3) basic sciences (branches) or components of Islam have suffered greatly in the hands and minds of modern Muslims who, due to their ignorance of the depth, the eminence, sublimity and sacredness of these sciences and the great sages who suffered to put them in place, are consulting mind and man’s limited intelligence to make a change in these sciences.

The first of these sciences, Kalam, the science discussing the details of traditional (Sunni) beliefs has witnessed various attacks by men trying to give Allah I the attributes of men and/or other creation. Men have started to perceive a Lord and Creator that can be approached with the question of how, when, where and why. This is a dangerous shift from the pure, pristine, perfect and perfecting Tawhid brought by the noblest of servants and of Prophets, the rahma on the entire creation, Rasulu-Karim Muhammad Mustafa (alaihi wa ahlihi wa sahabihi salawatu wa taslimat). Indeed, the most exalted Prophet r mentioned in his noble words that the deviants will continue in this wayward and eccentric digression of theirs until they would ask: ‘Who created Allah ?’ Subhanallah! The Prophet of mercy, Hadrat Muhammad Mustafa (salalau alaihi wa salam) finally warned:

There will be towards the end of time a people (among my Ummah) who will say to you what you nor your fore-fathers (spiritual ancestors) have never heard before. Beware of them lest they misguide you and bring you to confusion. Continue reading “Tasawwuf and the Sacred Sunnat”
