Adhkar in Ramadan

        Ramadan Sharif is the month of Ibadat, the month of Adhkar (remembrance of Allah), the month of Salawat and profuse Dua (supplication). These are listed here in summary to facilitate the drawing of your personal time-table for the month. Time is wasted when time is not planned, and a life without a schedule of program is a life in shambles.


     Apart from the compulsory daily Salats which must strictly come at their times, you should try also including the following:

  • The recognized nafilats coming before and after the obligatory salats.
  • The nafilat of Tarawih following the Ishai salat.
  • The nafilat of Tahajjud.
  • The two raka’at Ishraq nafilat which comes approximately fifteen minutes after sunrise.
  • Salatul Duha which is the mid-morning salat, approximately two hours before noon.
  • Salatul Awwabin: A six raka’at nafilat following the maghrib salat.
  • Recite the Holy Qur’an many times over.
  • Try to recite the Holy Qur’an in Tahajjud and between Sahur and Subhi and at all times. Strictly avoid sleeping immediately after Subhi. Try not to miss the Ishraq nafilat (see above).
  • Recite the Yasin surah daily in Ramadan. It gives reward of ten complete recitation of the Holy Qur’an.
  • Give special time to Zikr, Istighfar and saying salawat on Rasulullah {alaihi’s-Salam}.
  • Dua, profuse supplication from the heart is a special blessing in Ramadan. So make Dua constantly every possible moment, in the day, in the night and especially at Iftar [breaking time] and

Some recommended Adhkar from the Sunnah

  1. La ilaha illallah Astaghfirullah as’alukal Jannat wa ‘auzubika minannar.

N.B:- The Zikr above combine the four things made compulsory on Muslims to say and seek in Ramadan Sharif. You may say this eleven times after every Salat and Tarawih. The more you do the better.

  1. La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharikallah Ahadan Samadan lam yalid walam yulad walam yakullahu kufuwan ahad.

:- The hadith says two million rewards is given to anyone who says this great Zikr once. Try repeating it many times in Ramadan Sharif.

:- La ilaha illallah – at least 1,000 daily.

  • Astaghfirullah – To be repeated often and profusely in Ramadan Sharif.
  1. Subhanallahi wabi hamdihi – 100 times after every salat, before sleep and in Tahajjud.
  2. Salawatu-ul-Nabiyy.

:- Do any one of the many salawat – Asalat mentioned by Rasulullah {sallallahu alaihi wa sallam} thousands of time daily. Shorter ones are:-

  • Allahumma salli ala sayyidina Muhammad wa ‘ala ali Sayyidina Muhammad wa barik wa sallim
  • Allahumma salli ala Muhammad wa ali Muhammad wa barik wa sallim. Etc


  1. Allahumma barik lana fil mawt wa fi ma ba’adal mawt. 25 times morning and night.

:- This according to the hadith makes one end his life in Iman.

  • Allahumma ighfirili wal muminina wal muminat wal muslimina wal muslimat.

:- 25 times morning and night. You can also increase this noble prayer on all Muslims.

  • La haola wala quwata illa billah.

:- 10 times after every salat and before sleep.

  1. La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharikalahu lahul mulku walahul hamd wahuwa ‘ala kulli shayn Qadir.

:- 10 times after Subhi, after Maghrib and before sleep.

  1. Rasulullah {alaihi ‘s-salam} said: “If a person says the following prayers 25 times, no accident or misfortune will befall his room, on his family, on his home or town: Astaghfirullah al-ladhi la ilaha illa huwa ar-rahman-ir-rahim al-hayyul qayyum alladhi la yamutu wa atubu ilaihi Rabbighfirili.

:- This is to be said 25 times morning and evening.

  1. Astaghfirullaha rabbi min kulli zambi wa atubu ilaihi. 100 times morning and evening.
  • La ilaha illallahul hayyul qayyumul qa’imu ‘alaa kulli nafsi bimaa kasabat (7 times in Tahajjud).

      May Allahu Subhanahu wa ta’ala make the path of Zikr and other Ibadats easy for us in and outside Ramadan Sharif. May He, as alm for His most beloved {alaihi ‘s-salam} accept us and our parents, this Ramadan Sharif, into His eternal pleasure, amin.
